Live, The Police can harness their energy like a coiled spring. They run through songs of uninspired conception, full of space and rebound.
Somehow they've contrived an immaculate blend of orthodox rock with reggae and boast, above all, one of the best new white voices I've heard in years.
And yet The Police's music doesn't move me. They could, on paper, be the perfect group but, for me, their sound doesn't live. It's hard to know why.
Taking in 'I'm So Lonely', 'Fall Out', and 'Message In A Bottle' the trio excelled without any noticeable difficulty - a clean commercial machine, a success.
'Roxanne', and 'Can't Stand Losing You' were duly brought in to being wrapping up the set and, for that matter, the first day.
