The Police - la force "public"...

Les presque papis de Police n'ont pas fait mentir leur légende, 100,000 bras se sont levés pour les acclamer et toute la foule de chantonner leurs mélodies phares

Les olas se succèdent sans souffler de part et d'autre du virage Nord où l'immense scène surplombe le Vélodrome. Le public aussi fervent que familial ne peut, hier à la tombée de la nuit, qu'attendre le trio de légende.

Sans chichi, The Police débarque avec son 'Message in a Bottle'. Stewart Copeland jette sa baguette en l'air pendant que Sting interroge : "Ça va Marseille?". Des tribunes à la pelouse, 50,000 bouches se mettent à fredonner en rythme avant d'apercevoir sur grand écran, le Robinson Crusoé qu'est devenu Sting, barbu en diable et chemisette transparente sur téton charmant.

Les flashs crépitent, les éminences vieillies enchaînent avec 'Walking on the Moon', Sting imposent aux 100,000 bras d'applaudir pendant qu'une extase veloutée enrobe le stade. Entre des soli étirés sur de vieux instruments usés jusqu'à la corde, Sting pose son timbre satiné sur les 'De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da' répétés à l'envi par l'auditoire.

L'émotion est au rendez-vous du suave 'I Can't Stand Losing You' mais c'est au premier rappel que tout se vêt de rouge pour 'Roxanne', Marseille se sent 'So Lonely' avant de perdre son souffle en un final local où Copeland apparaÎt vêtu d'un T-shirt de l'OM offert par l'ancien guitariste Henry Padovani pour l'ultime hommage 'Next to You'.
